JR is a senior business executive and Big 4 Managing Partner with over 25 years of extensive finance, public accounting and international business experience. He has a proven track record of leading multinational/multifunctional teams and serving life sciences, technology, manufacturing, real estate and media companies as well as public sector. JR is a recognized leader in the community through board involvement in many non-profits (education, health and human services, and economic development). He has served as board chair and finance & audit committee chair, on CEO search and strategy committees, as well as many other leadership roles. JR is a founding board member of the Daniel Center for Math and Science. JR was the marketplace leader and face of Deloitte in the local geography for a $100 million practice and over 425 people. He was the lead client services partner for many key clients including Red Hat, State of NC, ABB, IQVIA, LabCorp, Martin Marietta, Capitol Broadcasting, Lord Corporation, etc. He was responsible for partnering with these clients to solve complex business issues such as ERP implementations, audits, mergers and acquisitions, business integrations, human capital strategies, cross border tax reorganizations (international and multi-state), and cyber security evaluations. In addition, he worked with and advised leadership and Boards of Directors on multiple issues such as CFO transitions. Prior to taking on the Managing Partner role, JR was a tax partner and led the tax practice for Deloitte’s Raleigh and Winston-Salem offices. Before Deloitte, JR was the CFO of Philips Investments, a family office that managed the assets and private foundation of a prominent Raleigh family. JR started his career at Price Waterhouse where he assisted this same family with divestiture of a $50 million business. JR is a member of the following boards – United Way of the Greater Triangle, Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Alliance Medical Ministry, Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts, Raleigh Housing Authority, City Club Raleigh, Poole College of Management at NCSU. JR is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the NC Association of Certified Public Accountants. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from North Carolina State University. JR received a CEO of the year award from the Triangle Business Journal in 2018. He is also a member of Leadership Raleigh’s Hall of Fame and NCSU’s Poole College of Management Hall of Fame
